There has been knitting!

I know I haven’t posted anything knitting recently……… but that doesn’t mean I haven’t been knitting! I finally finished my sweater (hurray!) and I’m fairly pleased with how it turned 100_5050.jpgout. The seaming was rather tedious… and there’s one section on the side that is a bit bunchy because I pulled too tight, but overall I think I did a pretty good job. I then proceeded to cast on for my first ever lace project – Juno Regina from knitty. I went to my LYS to look for potential yarns. I found Helen’s Lace (what the pattern calls for) but it was rather expensive and I just wasn’t willing to pay the price. I also found some yarn that was almost exactly the same as Helen’s lace, for about a quarter the price. They only had it in forest green and coral though, so I finally compromised with Classic Elite’s Silky Alpaca Lace. It’s lovely and soft, and a beautiful light purple color. I cast on a couple weeks back and got about three inches in, where I made the mistake of trying to pay attention to two things at once. Well, my knitting didn’t win, and I ended up having to frog the thing. As I look back now, I realize that it was a very good thing I made that mistake, because I realized that I was doing garter stitch for the triangles instead of stockinette (which looks much better). I cast on again the next day and am now a bit past the point where I had to rip it out last time.

100_5053.jpgSorry about the sideways-ness of it….. I can’t figure out how to rotate it. I know that it looks more pink in the picture, but as I said, it’s more of a light purple. I really like how it’s turning out so far, although progress is fairly slow. I’ve learned my lesson and now am very careful about giving it my undivided attention (perhaps a little too careful….), but this means that I can only work on it when I have a fairly large block of time. So for my mindless knitting (I always like to have some) I discovered unbiased, once again from knitty. I found an old recycled silk scarf that had never been worn, and so I ripped it out and rolled up its yarn for the unbiased. Since it’s very thick-thin, I’m knitting one strand of it along with a strand of black Simply soft. I’m adding short rows to each piece to make it less shallow, as I looked at some comments about it on ravelry and a lot of people thought it was too shallow to be useful. Unfortunately I don’t think I’m going to have enough yarn for all four pieces, so I’ll probably just do two pieces of silk and two pieces of all black. I’ll update later as that project grows.
